The very popular Jersey Tomato, the Moreton F1 hybrid, has been brought back by Rutgers with the help of Eastern Seed & Harris Seed. Moreton Hybrid was the first Hybrid tomato released by Harris Seeds in 1953 and was renowned for its superior taste. The variety was a favorite of Jersey farmers back in the tomato glory days of the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s. It has been referred to as “the July 4th tomato". It is a large, oblate fruited variety that matures about 2-3 weeks earlier than Ramapo. The fruit is soft and prone to cracking if grown with an uneven watering schedule. The vines are indeterminate and perform best when staked or trellised. Our second year growing this variety. 65 days
